Trains from Euston
Euston is the gateway to the West Midlands, the North West and Scotland's west coast. Avanti West Coast runs fast services to Birmingham New Street, Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Preston and Glasgow Central. London Northwestern Railway serves Milton Keynes, Northampton and Birmingham on slower routes, and the overnight Caledonian Sleeper to Scotland also leaves from here.
Much of the area around Euston has been under construction for the HS2 project in recent years, so walking routes and pick-up points near the station can change. Your driver will know the current layout.
The drive from Kingston
The journey is typically 55 to 70 minutes. The usual route follows the A3 north through Putney or Wandsworth, crosses the Thames and heads up through the West End or around Marylebone to Euston Road. Weekday morning traffic is the biggest factor. For an early train, the drive is usually quicker.
By rail from Norbiton you would need to reach Waterloo and change onto the Northern line to Euston. It is manageable with a small bag, but hard with suitcases, pushchairs or anyone with limited mobility.
Catching the Caledonian Sleeper
The sleeper leaves Euston late in the evening, which is an awkward time to cross London with luggage. A pre-booked taxi picks you up in Kingston at a time that gets you to the station with room to spare. You relax on the way and step straight onto the platform.
