A short flight, a longer drive
London City Airport is the closest airport to the City and Canary Wharf. It is compact, and check-in times are shorter than at the big airports, which is why business travellers love it. From Kingston, though, it is right across London, so the road journey often takes longer than the drive to Heathrow or Gatwick, despite the shorter distance.
We usually take one of two routes. One goes through central London along the Embankment and the Limehouse Link towards Docklands. The other crosses south London on the A3 and the South Circular before heading under the Thames. River crossing charges may apply, depending on the route. We choose the faster option at your pick-up time, and the drive is typically 60 to 90 minutes.
Timing is everything
City Airport's short check-in means some travellers cut it fine, but the road across London is the unpredictable part. For a weekday morning flight we strongly suggest leaving plenty of margin. Tell us your flight time and we will suggest a realistic pick-up time from Norbiton. On Sundays and late evenings the drive is often much quicker.
Business travel with a fixed fare

Arriving at London City

Mixing train and taxi
If your day includes the City or Canary Wharf, a taxi to London Bridge station or Waterloo station can be a useful stop on the way. Canary Wharf and the Docklands
